Kinematics is the study of motion without regard to what causes the motion.
Dynamics is the study of the forces that cause motion/changes in motion.
In the universe, INERTIA is king. It takes no force to keep objects like planets, stars, or asteroids in motion. So we can study kinematics in a universe if we ignore frictional forces. Slide a book across a tabletop and it continues moving at a constant rate until something gets in the way.
In real life, FRICTION is king. We need to look at forces to keep things moving because friction is constantly stealing our energy. A book you push across a tabletop will stop if you stop pushing.
The following notes are equations we use for our jaunt through kinematics/dynamics.
